Kimberly Hutsal, a native of upstate NY, is a mixed-media fibers artist with a focus in quilting, papermaking and small sculptures. She has a BFA in Craft from the Oregon College of Art & Craft where she became interested in exploring, through sculpture, spiritual identity in the context of universal iconography. Kimberly’s interest in her own Ukrainian-Scottish-Canadian ancestry and African-based religions has lead her to pursue such craft forms as quilting that speaks to the notion of hybridity and cross-cultural existence.
Kimberly Hutsal is a hands-on artist. In 2006, she helped successfully install a papermaking studio at Bison Bookbinding & Letterpress in Bellingham, WA. She has also assisted artist Nancy Cohen and currently is assisting conceptual artist John Sims with a series of quilts based on mathematical ideas.
